Hello there !
Just to start by saying a big thank you to Mark Gregory for inviting us at HETAS to help contribute towards the Woodfuel Blog. Hopefully we can maintain the high standard of content that readers have come to expect.
Our first port of call is to give an explaination about what we do here at HETAS and of our Solid Biomass Assurance Scheme.
HETAS is the official body recognised by Government to approve biomass and solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services inluding the registration of competent installers and servicing businesses.
The Solid Biomass Assurance Scheme was created to ensure that consumers have access to fuel products that are economical, reliable and safe for their appliances. We work with wood fuel manufacturers big & small in order to ensure that consumers are getting the best product possible. We offer independent verification to producers that meet our biomass fuel quality standards. We are also here to help educate people drying their own fire wood about the importance of proper seasoning and care in order to get the safe, economical energy source they require.
This month celebrates wood fuel producer Bowland Bioenergy as the latest organisation to acquire the Solid Biomass Assurance Scheme accreditation. The Lancashire-based business is the first wood chip producer in the UK to meet this standard.
From HETAS, project manager Mark Russell said "producers have a great oppurtunity here to communicate to customers the quality of their offering... I am delighted to welcome our first wood chip producer Bowland Bioenergy to the scheme. They have been a delight to deal with during the assessment process".
Speaking about the experience, Bowland Bioenergy's Mike Ingoldby "we found the assessment process to be quite straightforward. It is early days, but we are already seeing a positive reaction from new and existing customers once they know that all aspects of our wood chip production is independently verified"
The past 6 months has seen an increase in demand frm producers looking to get accredited. Consumers are realising the importance of buying quality assessed wood fuels. When they see the HETAS mark on products they can be sure to expect a consistent, efficient reliable source of energy.
