Over the last year, many different products on the MCS list, including Wind Turbines, Heat Pumps, PV panels and Solar Thermal panels etc. that had not obtained full MCS certification had been on the MCS "transition list" which was a period of grace in which to obtain full Product MCS. Installers of these products could be certain that their customers would be eligible for FiTs and grants where appropriate.
The transition list was in place because it can take some time to obtain full Product MCS. However, during the MCS Steering Group meeting at the end of November, the previously taken decision to close this transition list on the 31st December 2010 was ratified. The Steering Group also confirmed that no appeals for extensions to existing listings are to be entertained.
Therefore, any products that have not obtained full MCS by this date (31st December 2010) will be removed from the MCS database of products and will no longer be eligible for grants, tariffs and incentives. The reason for this decision was that 12 months should have provided sufficient time for appliances to be approved.
Jos Mister, Microgeneration Co-ordinator for Yorkshire and the Humber at the Energy Saving Trust said;
"Installers should remember that for their customers' installation to be eligible for the Feed in Tariff the installed product must be commissioned within six months of that product leaving the Transition Agreements or be on the full MCS list on the date it is commissioned. We advise all Installers and customers to check the products they are using in the run up to this cut off date"
