DECC's latest published energy figures, show the contribution of renewables to electricity generation was 6.8% in 2010, this is 0.1 percentage higher than 2009, but falls short of the UK’s 10% renewable electricity target for 2010. Overall, only 3.3% of energy consumption in 2010 came from renewable sources. This clearly shows there is a huge need for a drive to increase the overall percentage of energy produced by renewable technologies alongside a necessity to reduce demand with energy efficiency measures.
Summer is a great time to upgrade insulation in homes. Adding a further 100mm of loft insulation, draught stripping doors and windows and considering insulation under floorboards will all reduce space heating demands considerably, not only saving money, but saving carbon too.
