Help with sourcing/supplying biomass fuel

The biomass sector

Biomass is defined as biological material derived from living or recently living organisms such as wood, plant based matter and waste food. In the context of biomass for energy, biomass can equally apply to both animal and vegetable derived material.

CO2Sense offers advice and support to businesses using wood or biomass either for heat or electricity generation. As well as helping businesses to buy biomass fuel, we also help those organisations who produce waste (or other material that could be used as fuel) to supply to other businesses such as recyclers. We also deliver specific training through a programme of events.

Why consider biomass?

Using biomass can help your business to achieve carbon savings whilst minimising your industrial waste. That’s why CO2Sense is committed to supporting you in using this form of energy production by giving help, expert advice and funding.

Helping you become a biomass supplier

We can help businesses to become a biomass supplier in two important ways:

  • Advice and guidance

We offer advice and guidance on all aspects of biomass supply, including fuel quality/standard, planning, handling, storage, signposting and legislation.

  • Funding

You may also be entitled to receive funding for projects which:

  • Process woody biomass and/or energy crops to be used as fuel
  • Support competition in the woodfuel market
  • Help ensure woodfuels are available within Yorkshire and The Humber
  • Are only economically viable with a grant.

Our funding includes capital grants for the purchase of biomass processing, storage and transport equipment, e.g. chippers, shredders, screens and dedicated fuel transport vehicles. Go to our funding section to find out more.

Help to find a local source of biomass

We can help businesses find reliable biomass suppliers in the Yorkshire and Humber region by drawing upon our contacts and network of suppliers. We can assist in sourcing general biomass, but more specifically we have a tool specially designed to source wood.
