Andrew Hartley, Programme Director BA (hons) CIM


Andrew joined CO2Sense Yorkshire as Programme Director of Recycling Action Yorkshire, RAY, in June 2005 and was been responsible for developing the initial scoping studies into a detailed business plan, forming a new team and moving into delivery. A key focus area has been building awareness and attracting additional funding into the programme which saw the initial £1.5m core funding grow to £3m.

Andrew, in partnership with Yorkshire Forward developed the second 3 year, programme of support to businesses on Resource Efficiency. This £9.8m programme called Resource Efficiency Yorkshire (REY) included the existing RAY team and activities but required the substantial expansion of operations with funding provided by Yorkshire Forward and the ERDF.

In September 2007 Andrew was voted in as chairman of the Remade Network UK.

Andrew was previously Director of Strategy & Communications at glass industry trade body - British Glass. While there Andrew formed a new division within British Glass, responsible for the development of glass recycling and successfully implemented several new industry wide initiatives, working with to the industry group of 7 MD’s.

Andrew has a background in business development and marketing, establishing several new initiatives within industry leading glass manufacturer Rockware Glass over a 17 year period. Andrew established a new design team, later delivered the marketing operations across the 4 manufacturing sites in the UK, represented the group in technical and legislative industry negotiations with Government and latterly helped form the UK’s largest glass collection, processing and recycling supply chain. This involved a £7m programme of investment in the world’s highest quality glass recycling facilities to service Rockware’s energy reduction and environmental improvement strategy.

Andrew introduced several public awareness campaigns for glass and glass recycling, and was responsible for developing education programmes, road shows and children’s factory visits, alongside a programme of financial, promotional and educational support to Local Authorities.
